Faith Baptist is a very unique school in the Tampa area. The school is very small, only 170 students, but they’re basketball team is a powerhouse! Check out my story on what the Eagles are all about!
Last weekend the Our Team crew traveled to Orlando’s Citrus Bowl to watch Manatee, Armwood, and Plant High School compete for their class’ state title. We had a lot of fun watching these teams play their hearts out. After a season’s worth of hard work and three state titles as a result these teams were invited to the set yesterday to be a part of our taping.
Three players and their coaches came to the studio to break down their game in play-by-play style. It was so great to see how proud they were of their big victory, and it was even better for me as a reporter to say I had covered these teams throughout their season. I felt like I was a part of their victory!
Remember…you can catch the breakdown, Megan and I’s report, and the team’s reaction TODAY AT 5PM ON SUNSPORTS! And if you haven’t “Liked” the Tampa Bay High School Sports Report of Facebook or Twitter (@ourteamsports) get on it! You can stay up to date with all of our work and get caught up with all the latest in high school sports.
For the past few weeks Dave and I have been heading out to Armwood High School to watch the Hawks journey in the State Championship Games. Armwood’s last game before the State Championship Game was against Jacksonville’s Bartram Trail. In case you missed my post game last week on Armwood here it is for your viewing pleasure!
In case you missed my on air debut here it is! Hope you enjoy it! Remember…you can always catch the latest breakdown of the best in high school sports every Thursday at 5pm on SunSports!
This past Thursday I got to enjoy a new experience…see what an ESPN production is like on the sidelines and be a part of one for Dave. Every week Dave hosts an online documentary style show for USF’s football team called “Running With the Bulls.” The Bulls last game was against West Virginia. They had to win this game in order to be bowl eligible. Dave and I were on the sidelines catching all the action first hand. When it got too cold we got to go up to the press box and enjoy warm cookies!
It was so much fun to be so close to the team, ESPN camera men, the fans, and other reporters. I got to do a stand up with fans cheering in the background and plays happening right before me. It was an experience I will never forget! The Bulls held West Virginia throughout the game, but a field goal in the final seconds by WVU ended the Bulls season and hopes of a bowl game bid.
Friday night was filled with more football as state playoff games continue. Dave and I headed to Lakeland to watch the Dreadnaughts face Gaither High. Lakeland has produced talents like the Pouncey twins and Chris Rainey and by the looks of it lots of top college football programs will include Dreadnaught players in the upcoming years. Lakeland has been undefeated this season, and Friday night wasn’t any different for the 6-time state champs…they defeated Gaither 42-14.
By the half Dave and I headed to Armwood High, another powerhouse football team. Armwood faced Gainesville High School. This game was supposed to be a “gimme” for the Hawks, but when we arrived to the stadium we were stunned to see the score…Armwood was down 14-3. Armwood struggled to turn it on in the last half of the game. Gainesville kept running back Matt Jones (Gator commit) quite, forcing Armwood’s offense to come up with other means of scoring. The Hawks kicker, the best kicker in the nation, Nick Feely struggled as well, missing field goals throughout the game. Feely pulled through for his team though…scoring the winning field goal and taking the Hawks to the Final Four in the state playoffs.
The best thing about this game was that I got to tape my on air debut!!!! That’s right…I’ll be on air on Thursday night with all the post game coverage for the exciting game! So turn on your TV THURSDAY AT 5PM ON SUN SPORTS and you’ll see Dave, all the latest in high school football and YOURS TRULY!
There are so many great high school sports programs in the Tampa area boasting nationally ranked sports teams. This past weekend two great volleyball programs of Berkley Prep and East Lake High School competed in the state championship games.
Berkley is ranked sixth in the nation and first in the state. The Lady Buccaneers held a 30-2 record this season and after four hard-fought matches they defeated Orlando’s Bishop Moore at the Class 4A State Championship game. Seniors Jordan Burgess, Mackenzie Dagostino and Katie O’Drobinak, (featured on the right) are part of Berkley’s “Dynasty,” after helping their team earn their third straight title on last Saturday.
East Lake High School also had an outstanding season. The Eagles are ranked third in the state and forty-sixth in the nation. The Lady Eagles took home the school’s first state championship on Saturday at the Class 5A State Championship game after defeating defending state champions Stuart Martin County in three games. Their victory, combined with titles won by Plant and Berkeley Prep, mark the sixth time since 1990 the Tampa Bay area has won three state volleyball titles in one season.
Dave and his Our Team Sports crew have followed both of these teams throughout their seasons. With their hard-earned victories this past weekend they were invited to the studio yesterday to tell viewers what happened from their perspective. After watching these girls work and their spirit, one thing was made very clear…these girls are not just team mates, their family. Their hard work has enabled them to gain national recognition and bids from some of the best schools in the country, yet they were all so humble!
Check out their interviews with Dave, catch up on all the latest in high school sports, and get a preview of this weekends match-ups tomorrow at 5 on Sun Sports!
Not only do Dave and his Our Team Sports crew travel around the state covering the biggest games in high school sports, they also do a live show every Wednesday at 1pm that gives you the latest in sports too. The show reminds me of ESPN’s Sports Center. Dave goes through all the top plays and adds his own little insights along the way. He usually has a guest on the show too and they dissect the upcoming match-ups.
Yesterday I had the opportunity to watch the show right from the studio! I had such a great time! It is so much fun to sit with the crew and watch all of the results of all the hard work everyone has contributed. You can catch the show every Thursday at 5 on Sun Sports…one day I hope you’ll see me with Dave so keep an eye out!
